BLUES PRESERVATION CENTER + MUSIC VENUE

From the front porches of Third Ward shotgun houses to the Duke/Peacock recording empire, Houston was a place where musicians created some of the most influential blues-based music ever played.  The preservation canter and music venue is dedicated to the preservation of Houston’s rich blues history and to the advocacy of continual creation and enjoyment of a sound that is inseparable from the Third Ward and from the pioneers who grew up with the music and call it their own. The program consists of a preservation center and blues museum with public reading and listening rooms, an intimate music venue, and a small recording studio, am AM radio station. The center seeks to aid in the rejuvenation of the community’s historic character and significant role in blues history through relevant architecture.  Located on the northwest corner of Elgin and Dowling, the site connects the Third Ward neighborhood and Emancipation Park.
