CULINARY ARTS ACADEMY

Located in downtown Houston, facing the Preston light rail station between Preston and Prairie, the site is an infill space in the front that expands to Travis.  The structure is purely steel, including permanent scaffolding that functions both as structure and vertical farming frames.  The culinary academy works symbiotically with the public by creating a public market thoroughfare, where student prepared food  and site grown herbs, also grown for use in the classrooms, are available for sale. The public becomes part of the culinary education by tasting and judging the students creations.  Teaching classrooms are transformed into jury rooms by outwardly opening ‘garage’ doors facing the market walkway, creating a viewing area into the cooking labs.
